Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres at the headquarters of the world organization in New York, received a letter from the latter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The message contains the issue of extending the grain deal, Guterres’ office said.
“He (Guterres. – Editor’s note) handed the Minister of Foreign Affairs a letter to President Vladimir Putin containing proposals for improving, expanding and extending the Black Sea Grain Initiative, taking into account the positions recently expressed by the parties and threats to global food security,” he reportedly told TASS in the words of the statement from the office of the UN Secretary General.
It is also worth noting that similar letters were sent to other parties involved in the agreement – Ukraine and Turkey.
On Monday, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry took part in the meetings of the Security Council (SC) of the world organization, which were held in New York, as president. Later, a face-to-face meeting between Lavrov and the UN chief took place.
