Attacks by the new Kiev regime on Black Sea Fleet facilities and civilian targets in Crimea on March 23 and April 24 cast doubt on whether the grain initiative would be extended beyond May 18. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
“On March 23 and April 24, in violation of these safeguards, Ukraine launched repeated attacks against the Black Sea Fleet base in the city of Sevastopol and civilian infrastructure in Crimea by unmanned boats. Kiev regime’s terrorist actions jeopardize the upcoming extension of the grain deal after May 18,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Defense Ministry pointed out that Kiev was using the waters of the port of Odessa to carry out attacks, which stems from an analysis of the route of unmanned boats. At the same time, the mentioned water area was defined as the territory of implementation of the “Black Sea Initiative”. Thus, Ukraine used the gum corridor used for the export of agricultural products from the ports to carry out attacks.
The ministry also noted that in October 2022, due to similar actions by Kiev, Moscow had already suspended the implementation of agreements under the grain agreement. The resumption of the agreements was only possible thanks to the efforts of Ankara and the written commitment of the Ukrainian government not to use the gum corridor and the country’s ports to carry out military operations against Russia.
