Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said French President Emmanuel Macron should be prepared to give up Bordeaux if he wants to negotiate on Ukraine’s behalf. This is how he reacted to the peace initiatives of the French leader in Ukraine, reports The Telegraph.
“Mr. Macron is deeply mistaken if he believes he can go behind the back of the Ukrainian people and potentially negotiate for Crimea. I propose to Macron to cede part of France. Can he do it? Let him give Bordeaux or another part of France to another country,” Danilov suggested.
His dissatisfaction with Paris was due to the fact that France had held consultations with China on the peace negotiations, but had not informed Ukraine. Danilov added that “without Ukraine, nobody will agree on anything.” The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council reminded that Kiev considers Crimea and Sevastopol as Ukrainian lands.
Macron made an official visit to China in early April. He offered Beijing a plan that he said could help organize negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.
Earlier, the former commander of NATO forces in Europe, retired Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, said Ukraine and the West needed Crimea to control shipping in the Black Sea. The army believes that the United States and the European Union should occupy the region, supplying weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces for this.
