Director of the Department of Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Vladimir Yermakov said that Russia, in the context of the actions of the United States, may abandon the moratorium on the deployment of intermediate and shorter ground means -range missiles, reports TASS.
He explained that the Russian side will assess the ability of US missiles to appear in the Asia-Pacific region, including in Japan.
“Its speed performance is far from the only criteria by which we will evaluate such deployments. The range of missile systems is no less important,” the diplomat said.
According to Yermakov, the readiness of the Russian side to adhere to a unilateral moratorium on the deployment of ground-based missiles will depend on the specific parameters of their range, but at the moment it can be said with certainty that the destabilizing military programs of the America and its allies are undermining the moratorium both vis-à-vis the Asia-Pacific region and vis-à-vis Europe.
