washington.mid.ru Interesting

On April 24, an unknown woman left two suitcases at the Russian Embassy in Washington and disappeared. US Secret Service employees, explosives experts and representatives of other local emergency services were immediately called to the scene, TASS reports.

“At 12:43 p.m. (local time, 7:43 p.m. Moscow time), a middle-aged Asian woman <…> at the main gate (Embassy on Wisconsin Avenue) left two suitcases. She stayed close to them for about eight minutes, then calmly left where she had left her things,” the Russian diplomatic mission told the agency.

The police restricted traffic in the streets near the embassy. The US Secret Service was studying information from security cameras and the bomb squad intended to examine the suitcases for the presence of explosive devices.

Later, TASS clarified that there were personal items in the abandoned suitcases at the embassy. There was no explosive device or anything suspicious inside. The police began to remove the cordon from the road leading to the Russian Embassy.

Earlier it was reported that on April 23, the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov arrived in New York. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova. She said a meeting of the UN Security Council would be held under the chairmanship of Lavrov.
