The State of Qatar topped the list of Arab countries in average life expectancy at birth in 2023, with an estimated average life expectancy of 81.73 years for both sexes, and according to World Population Review data, the average life expectancy for males in Qatar is 81.90 years, and for females 83.25 years.
Kuwait ranks fourth in the Arab world, with an average age of 80.45 years for both sexes, 79.09 years for males, and 82.91 years for females. Next comes the authority of Oman, with an average life expectancy of 78.97 years for both sexes, 77.54 for males and 80.77 for females. And then Saudi Arabia, where the average age for both sexes is 78.1 years, 76.87 for males and 79.73 for females.
Algeria ranks seventh in the Arab world, with an average life expectancy of 77.33 for both sexes, 76.05 for males and 78.67 for females.
The World Population Review stated in its report that life expectancy at birth is the average number of years a person might expect to live.
She added that studies indicate that longevity depends on three main factors: heredity, gender and lifestyle, which includes elements such as good health system, quality of life and diet, lifestyle choices (such as smoking and occupation), access to good medical care and even crime rates.
According to the United Nations, the global average life expectancy as of this year was 70.8 years for males and 76.0 years for females, with an average of 73.4 years. Life expectancy varies greatly by region as well as by country.
The report states that in general, life expectancy is on the rise. Between 2000 and 2016, average life expectancy increased by 5.5 years globally.
In its report, the World Population Review relied on data from the United Nations, the World Health Organization and the World Bank.
