Huawei recently held its Global Summit for Telecom and Information Technology Analysts, with the participation of more than 1,000 technical and financial analysts, senior opinion leaders and media representatives from all over the world. Participants discussed the reality, challenges and future of the technical sector, particularly development strategies, digital transformation plans and future directions for building sustainable digital economies. This is the twentieth edition of the summit that Huawei organizes annually in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, which hosts its headquarters. Sabrina Meng, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, current Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of Huawei, opened the summit with a keynote speech that highlighted the possibilities offered by digital transformation to the economies of countries in general, and the technical sector in particular. Meng explained that Huawei will continue to invest in vital areas of the future such as communications, electronic cloud, storage and cloud computing. She said: "We strive to provide seamless digital infrastructure with the highest possible quality, best experience and lowest costs to our customers. Our goal is to help organizations achieve digital transformation through four stages, including implementing operations based on digital technologies, designing digital platforms, enabling smart functions based on platforms, and implementing smart operations. We believe that this is the perfect time to achieve prosperity by joint collective action to build a prosperous digital world that serves the future of all humanity". Meng also talked about the three main points on which Huawei’s experience in digital transformation depends, the first of which is the strategy on which digital transformation depends in its essence, as strategic planning and strategic choices are its most important priorities, and therefore digital transformation must be implemented based on strategy first, not on technology. Data, which is an essential ingredient, is the second priority, as it creates greater value only when it flows through the organization. Therefore, the systematic governance of data is an essential component, as integrating data across several dimensions will lead to greater value. The third priority is smart technologies, which are the most important goal, as data provides an innovative concept of productivity. The digitization of processes and the provision of digital platforms contribute to the clarification, understanding and aggregation of data, which provides the solid foundations for digital transformation. Data can be easily understood and executed on demand by relying on smart technologies, which takes digital transformation to new levels". For his part, Dr. Zhou Hong, President of the Huawei Strategic Research Institute, spoke at the summit about Huawei’s hypotheses and visions for building the smart world in the future, and explained in detail how experiences can be transformed into systematic knowledge and lay the foundations for smart technologies. And he said: "The networking and computing approach must be re-evaluated in order to build the smart world. We can push the limits of Shannon’s theories – and applications of his theory – in the field of networks in order to enhance the capabilities of the network by 100 times over the coming years. In computing, we will adopt new models, designs, and components, and improve our ability to understand and control intelligence. We will also continue to explore the uses of AI in technology, science and more". The event witnessed an important panel discussion on the role of digital productivity in advancing digital transformation, the challenges faced by sectors to achieve digital transformation and the recommended measures, in addition to the expectations of other sectors regarding their digital productivity. Participating in the panel discussions were Li Bing, Senior Expert of China Southern Power Grid and CEO of Digital Power Networks Business Group, Liang Yongjie, Executive Director of Engineering and Technology of Hong Kong Airports Authority, and Liu Hong, Chief Technology Officer of GSMA Worldwide. and Charles Ross, Director of Technology and Society "The Economist Impact".
