Pakistan announces the discovery of the first case of monkeypox “Empux”

Pakistan has announced the detection of its first case of monkeypox (SMP). The Pakistani Ministry of Health said in a press statement that a traveler who had recently arrived in Pakistan came as a result of his positive tests, and was isolated in a hospital in the capital, Islamabad, with others undergoing examination, adding that there is no evidence of the spread of the viral disease locally, according to Reuters.

In July 2022, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a global health emergency, and last November it maintained its warning. The disease is spread through close contact and causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled skin lesions.

On November 28, the World Health Organization named the "embox" on the viral disease in place of the ancient name of monkeypox, citing concerns about stigma and racism associated with the name.

"monkeypox"It is a zoonotic viral infection, which means it can be passed from animals to humans. It can also be transmitted from one person to another.

The disease was first discovered in 1958 when a smallpox-like disease appeared in monkeys in a laboratory, hence the name.

incubation period range "monkeypox" (This is the period between the stage of infection and the stage of symptoms appearing) between 6 and 16 days, but it can range from 5 days to 21 days, according to the World Health Organization.

The infection stage can be divided into two periods as follows:

  • The period of the invasion (0 days and 5 days), and its features include fever, severe headache, swollen lymph nodes, back and muscle pain, and severe weakness (loss of energy).
  • The period of appearance of the rash (within a period ranging from 1 to 3 days after the onset of fever) in which the various stages of the appearance of the rash crystallize, which often begins on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body. The rash is most severe on the face (in 95% of cases) and on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet (75%).

In about 10 days the rash develops from macular papules (lesions with flat bases) to vesicles (small fluid-filled blisters) and pustules followed by scabs that may take up to three weeks to disappear completely.
