The State of Qatar participated in the Delphi Economic Forum, which is being held in the Greek capital, Athens, in the presence of HE President of the Hellenic Republic, Ekaterina Sakellaropoulou. The State of Qatar’s delegation to the forum was headed by His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
His Excellency directed in a speech during the session about "international affairs" At the forum, I would like to thank the government and friendly people of Greece for their warm welcome and hospitality, and thank Mr. Simon Tsomokos, the founder and president of the Delphi Forum and his team for their efforts in preparing this forum.
His Excellency said that the work of this forum is taking place at a critical period in which global challenges have multiplied at the economic, humanitarian, social and development levels, which undoubtedly have an impact on the system of international relations and the security and well-being of all peoples, pointing out that in the context of disturbing trends and international and regional conflicts, collective action and cooperation remain. Multilateralism is indispensable for addressing various and interrelated challenges.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs stressed that we cannot talk about economic, social or environmental reform in isolation from strengthening international security and creating a stable international political environment, and he expressed the hope that the forum deliberations would take this into account to come up with common directions and perceptions to enrich and strengthen efforts to build a new and safer world. Justice, freedom and development, where international human solidarity prevails, and a common prosperous future for our peoples.
His Excellency stressed that the human civilizational depth of peoples is the decisive response to calls for isolationism, extremism, intolerance, marginalization of international law, preference for narrow interests over the values of one world, one humanity, respect for international law, and the principles of the United Nations Charter, especially respect for the sovereignty of states and the inadmissibility of using Force or the threat of its use in international relations.
His Excellency explained that the delegation of the State of Qatar came to this esteemed forum to actively participate in its activities, to talk with economists and policy makers, and to explore prospects for future cooperation to achieve common goals and interests for all, and continued: We affirm on this occasion the commitment of the State of Qatar to continue its active role in joint international action in various development fields, humanity, the environment, and human rights.
His Excellency said that the State of Qatar, as the holder of the second global gas reserves, responded to the global energy crisis by increasing gas production and expanding partners, including European partners, and thus contributed to strategies to reduce greenhouse gases at the global level, since gas is a clean energy and a moderate price. .
He stated that the State of Qatar gives priority to mediation efforts to resolve regional and international disputes, revitalize dialogues, multilateral conferences, cultural activity and intellectual production in general, pointing out that the State of Qatar is proud to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was held for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab region, And what this sporting event constituted as a prominent occasion to spread a message of welcome to millions of the world’s population, and to promote the values of peace, development and understanding among all the peoples of the world.
His Excellency touched on two issues of concern to the world, the first being the war in Ukraine, stressing the firm position of the State of Qatar on the need to adhere to the Charter of the United Nations and the established principles of international law and to renounce violence and aggression against the sovereignty of states, and we stress the need to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Perpetuation of the war will increase the number of victims, and multiply its dire effects on the global economy and international stability, peace and security. We express Qatar’s full readiness to contribute to any international and regional effort aimed at finding an immediate peaceful solution to this crisis.
He added: The second issue is the Palestinian issue, the bleeding wound in the conscience of humanity since the founding of the United Nations. The Israeli occupation and its racist practices require a serious stand by the international community in order to achieve a comprehensive and just peace settlement to the Palestinian issue by establishing the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the solution justice for the refugee issue.
His Excellency Mr. Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, affirmed that there is no way through which we can build a new world that is safer, more just, free and developmental for us and our future generations, except for the path of international solidarity and sustainable development for all.
