Former British diplomat and professor of military studies Tim Willacy-Wilsey expressed the opinion that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has only six months to achieve an acceptable result for the West in military operations. He wrote about it in his article for The Scotsman newspaper.
According to him, if Ukraine does not beat Russia in the next six months, the West could pressure Zelenskyy to negotiate with Putin, although it is almost impossible to reach an acceptable outcome of the negotiations.
“Ideally, Biden would like the conflict to be over by the end of 2023, before the US primary begins in early 2024. Otherwise, that will mean peace talks,” the analyst wrote.
Willacy-Wilsey believes that the United States and the EU are already tired of the hostilities and worried about their political and economic consequences for their countries. He noted that US President Joe Biden is most interested in the end of hostilities, who, according to the expert, would not want to defend the thesis on the need for costly support for Ukraine in the pre-election debate.
However, Willacy-Wilsey was extremely skeptical of Ukraine’s ability to turn the tide of hostilities, which he believed would require the West to force Zelenskyy into negotiations.
