Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said the lines of communication between Moscow and Washington must remain open. According to the diplomat, they allow the position of the Kremlin to be transmitted to the White House, reports RIA Novosti.
“In all circumstances, we must keep the lines of communication open,” the ambassador stressed.
Antonov recalled that Russia and the United States are the main nuclear powers, permanent members of the UN Security Council. This is why the Russian Embassy has contacts with the State Department and the White House.
At the same time, the diplomat noted that at the moment contacts are very rare and basically boil down to demonstrating another negative step in relation to Moscow’s policy.
“But we still have such contacts, and we will use them as much as possible to convey Russian national interests,” Antonov explained.
Earlier, Anatoly Antonov said US Undersecretary of Defense Colin Kohl had in fact admitted that the US administration was pursuing a provocative line towards Russia in Ukraine. The diplomat noted that Kol’s reasoning is filled with cynicism, hypocrisy and is very arrogant towards Russia.
