Washington. India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that the India-US partnership is at a stage which is in the interest of not only both the countries but also the world. He emphasized that big changes are taking place in India.
Addressing a gathering of Indian-Americans at the US Capitol Hill (US Parliament House) on Wednesday, Sandhu said that India and the US are deepening their ties and the Indian diaspora in particular is poised to play a very important role . He said, “Some big changes are happening in India, which are also visible in the India-US partnership.
Sandhu said, “Commerce Minister (Gina) Raimondo said a few days back, he used the word partnership. I think the first and foremost aspect of this is that India is an ancient civilization, but at the same time it is also a very young country. He said that 50 percent of India’s 1.4 billion people are 26 years old. The immediate result of this is that by 2070, India will remain the country with the largest number of youth.
Sandhu made this statement on Wednesday at the India-US summit organized by Ro Khanna, co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus. Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, who was present at the event, said that the relationship between the US and India will continue to grow significantly due to shared democratic values and shared strategic interests, especially in the resource-rich Indo-Pacific region.
India, the US and several other world powers have been stressing the need to ensure a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific in the backdrop of China’s growing military presence in the region. “The relationship between the United States and India is important now and will continue to grow in importance because of our shared democratic values,” Jefferies said. With India being the world’s largest democracy, we share our shared democratic values and our shared strategic interests, especially in the Indo-Pacific.
