New York: Top diplomat Harsh Shringla has said that the outcome of the G20 under India’s chairmanship will be unpredictable as the international community sees India as a country that is in a position to rise to the challenge of providing solutions to current global problems. India’s G20 chairmanship chief coordinator and former foreign secretary Shringla said here that the G20 is the “most important” international event that India has hosted since its independence.
He addressed Indian-American citizens and distinguished members of the overseas Indian community at the launch of his biography ‘Not An Accidental Rise’ here on Tuesday. Former US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster and Indian Consul General in New York Randhir Jaiswal were among the guests of honor at the event, organized by Jaipur Foot USA. Jaipur Foot USA is a subsidiary of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS). India assumed the presidency of the G20 for a year on December 1 last year and is hosting more than 200 meetings and various events related to it in different cities of the country. The final culmination of all these events will be a global “Leaders’ Summit” in New Delhi in September, which will be attended by heads of state, heads of government and representatives of more than 40 international organizations.
Shringla said, “I have no doubt that both the summit that India will host, and the outcome of the G20 we deliver, will be unpredictable”. The only sure thing is. He said, “Many of our partners in the international community feel that if there is any country that can rise to the challenge of providing solutions to the emerging global situation today, it is India.” Shringla said that India will fully meet the aspirations of the international community, especially the Global South, “of which we are a part and for which we have been raising our voice”.
