Tremors of magnitude 5.0 and 4.7 were recorded by seismologists near the Kuril Islands on the night of April 27. Large earthquakes have been reported by the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“The epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean, 175 km south of the island of Simushir”, RIA Novosti quotes the words of the head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, Elena Semenova.
According to seismic observations, another earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred three hours later in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of about 80 km at a distance of 145 km southwest of the city of Severo-Kurilsk on the island of Paramushir.
According to initial information, the earthquake passed without consequences.
“There were no reports of tangibility from the population in either case,” Elena Semenova said.
Earlier it was reported that scientists from the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9-7.1 near the island of Sumatra on the night of 24-25 april.
Recall that on April 11, the Shiveluch volcano erupted in Kamchatka, tons of gas, ash and rock escaped into the atmosphere, and the ash fall hit the surrounding settlements, the thickness of the ash cover reached 10 cm.
