On the evening of April 27, the results of the Jubilee of the 45th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) were summed up at the capital’s Rossiya Theater and prizes were awarded to the winners. The main – the “Golden Saint George” for best film – was received by the film “Three Brothers” directed by Francisco Paparella from Brazil, reported at the show’s press office.
“Our festival winner is a film with a strong story, excellent acting, visuals and all the elements that make up a powerful and heartbreaking film.” said during the awards ceremony, the president of the jury of the main competition of MIFF, the Indian director Rahul Ravel.
The winner of the short film was the film “Everything” by Chinese director Lu Helai. “I am honored to receive this award. A big thank you to Moscow, this cinematic country, and a big thank you to the festival, we filmmakers see the temple of cinematography in this festival”, declared Helay receives an award.
The prize for best documentary film was awarded to director Yulia Bobkova for her film The History of Russian Prisons. Seems to me that’s why it’s worth making a movie,” she said.
“Silver St. George” for Best Performance by a Female Role went to actress Kaho Seto, who starred in Japanese director Yutaka Tsunemachi’s “Fragile Flowers in the Stream of Days.”
The Best Actor award went to Fernando Arce for his performance in Down Under, co-produced by five countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay.
Tonatia Garcia received the best director statuette for the Mexican film Black Moon. The Special Jury Prize was awarded to the film “FI1.618” by Theodor Ushev, created by Bulgaria in co-production with Canada. Karen Shakhnazarov was named owner of the “Golden Saint George” for her contribution to world cinema.
Before the main ceremony, the festival organizers named the winners of the Audience Award and the Critics’ and Film Club Awards.

In 2023, the MIFF was held from April 20 to 27. It is the second oldest film festival in the world after Venice. The MIFF was first held in 1935, until 1999 it was held every two years, then annually. The exam traditionally took place in June, but in 2018 it was postponed to April due to the FIFA World Cup. After that, it was decided that the MIFF would be held in April permanently. The winners of his prize – “Golden George” – in different years were paintings by Federico Fellini, the Dardenne brothers and other internationally recognized masters of cinema.
