US Marine gets off with extrajudicial punishment for beating Polish resident

A US Marine who brutally beat a resident of the Polish city of Lodz has escaped trial and received “extrajudicial punishment” from his command, reports Gazeta.pl.

The incident happened in May 2022. The Pole and his wife spent time in one of the city’s restaurants, where they met two Americans. The men said they were servicemen from the group that operates Lusk Air Base.

At one point, one of the Americans rudely insulted the Pole’s wife. The man defended his wife, after which he was beaten. The victim underwent two facial operations and was on sick leave for several months.

Polish security forces began investigating the crime, but later the case was transferred to the American side. In accordance with the agreement between Poland and the United States, in matters concerning the United States military, American jurisdiction prevails.

The publication reports that the Pole’s attacker received an ‘extrajudicial sanction’ from his commanding officer.
