The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today, Thursday, that it had received requests from Egypt, Algeria and other countries to host the 2027 Nations Cup. The CAF indicated in a statement that the requests were from Algeria, Egypt and Botswana separately, in addition to a joint file that includes Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. These requests sent to CAF are not final, but only express the interest of these countries to host the tournament, which now includes 24 teams. May 23 will be the deadline for submitting applications to host the tournament, with inspection visits to find out the condition of stadiums, facilities and infrastructure between June 1 and July 15. CAF did not specify a date for revealing the Executive Committee’s decision to choose the host country. The next edition will be held in Ivory Coast in January 2024, after it was postponed from the summer of 2023 due to weather concerns. CAF withdrew organizing the 2025 edition of Guinea for lack of readiness, and has not yet chosen an alternative country. Egypt hosted the finals five times, most recently in 2019, and holds the record for winning the title seven times. Algeria, twice champion, organized the 1990 edition when it won its first title.
