Indian community and US Congress play an important role in strengthening bilateral ties: Taranjit Sandhu

Washington: India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu has said that the Indian community and the US Congress have played a “pivotal role” in building and strengthening ties between the two countries. Sandhu said this while addressing Indian-Americans at a reception. A group of Indian-Americans in the US celebrated ‘India Advocacy Day’ on Thursday in the US Capitol complex. More than 70 MPs were interviewed and more than a dozen of these MPs addressed the community members at the reception.

Sandhu said the community and the US Congress have played a “pivotal role” in establishing and strengthening ties between India and the US. “It is interesting to see that the entire Indian American community is very active on Capitol Hill,” he said at an event organized by the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS), a non-profit organization. Meanwhile, FIIDS director Khanderao Kand Said that ‘Indian Americans, with a population of 4.5 million, have established themselves well and are respected through direct contributions in diverse fields, including technology, hotels, transportation, healthcare, finance and agriculture, but in policy matters I don’t see their issues and problems in ‘Capitol Hill’.

Meanwhile, Ro Khanna, co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus, told the Indian community about his visits to the Parliament offices, “The feedback I have received is that you did it very respectfully and in a meaningful and effective manner. You should be really proud of this. It makes me really proud to see how far this community has come.” Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nancy Jackson also appreciated the role of the Indian diaspora in the relationship between the two countries, saying that India America’s partnership with On this occasion, Mukesh Aghi, President of India-US Strategic and Partnership Forum, MP Raja Krishnamurthy and many leaders and dignitaries have appreciated the contribution of the Indian American community.
