Real Madrid announced today that its veteran Croatian international playmaker, Luka Modric, has been injured, threatening his participation in the final match of the King’s Cup, and against Manchester City in the first leg of the semi-finals of the European Champions League.
The Spanish capital club said in a statement on its official website: "After the tests carried out by Luka Modric, his injury has been diagnosed, and his recovery will be assessed" without specifying a date for his return.
Modric left in the 63rd minute of the match that Real Madrid lost in the league against Girona, 4 goals to 2, last Tuesday, due to an injury to his left foot. The player, who was crowned with the Golden Ball in 2018, will miss the Almeria matches on Saturday and Real Sociedad on Tuesday in the league. There are doubts about his readiness for the King’s Cup final against Osasuna on the sixth of next May, and the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals at the Santiago Bernabeu on the ninth of it.
With 11 points behind Barcelona, the league title seems elusive for Real Madrid, so its focus is on defending its continental title and winning the local cup competition for the first time since 2014.
