“Moscow Helsinki Group” will be liquidated according to the court decision

The decision to liquidate the human rights organization Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG) has been recognized as legal. This verdict was rendered by the first common law court of appeal. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the court.

“The decision of the Moscow City Court on the liquidation of the regional public organization “Moscow Group for Assistance in the Implementation of the Helsinki Accords” was left unchanged by the appeal decision of the Judicial Council for administrative matters, the appeal was not satisfied,” the agency said.

At the end of January, the Moscow City Court liquidated the organization for compliance with the Helsinki Accords. The reason for this was the implementation of the activities of this organization throughout the country, which has a regional status. The lawsuit was filed by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

The MHG was involved in promoting compliance with the 1975 Helsinki Accords, whose mission was to “promote respect for human rights and the building of democracy in Russia”.

In 1975, the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe ended in Helsinki. The United States, Canada, and all European countries except Albania took part. The final act was adopted, according to which each of the countries, including the USSR, assumed the obligation to comply with international standards in the field of human rights.
