British media reported the discovery of drawings of the nuclear submarine HMS Anson in a pub toilet

The Royal Navy has launched an investigation after drawings of the nuclear submarine HMS Anson were found in a pub toilet in the English port town of Barrow-in-Furness. On this subject to write The Sun and The Guardian, citing British Navy officials.

According to the newspapers, the plans were found in a toilet cubicle in the Furness Railway pub, which is a short walk from the BAE Systems shipyard where Astute-class nuclear submarines are being built. The publication’s source, who found the documents, said there were many shipyard and army workers in the pub that day.

The documents contain information about the inner workings of the HMS Anson submarine, including “key details” about the ship’s hydraulic system, writes The Sun. The drawing is marked “confidential” – it is one level below the “secret” heading, the newspaper notes.

HMS Anson is the Royal Navy’s fifth Astute-class nuclear-powered submarine. She began to build in 2011 and launched in April 2021. In February 2023, the submarine for the first time came out of out to sea for sea trials.

The length of the boat is 97 meters, the crew consists of 98 people. HMS Anson is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles and heavy Spearfish torpedoes. The submarine can circumnavigate the world underwater producing its own oxygen and drinking water.

A British navy source told the newspaper that the documents found were part of a reference manual available to anyone aboard the submarine.

“These are general educational documents that do not contain classified information. However, we take security issues very seriously and will investigate the circumstances of their discovery,” said a Navy spokesperson, whose remarks son The Guardian.

In June 2021, the BBC reported the discovery of classified UK Ministry of Defense documents at a bus stop in Kent. They discussed the possible reaction of Russia to the passage of the British destroyer Defender in the Black Sea.
