President’s Cup.. Sharjah are champions after ‘historic’ penalties

After a 1-1 draw at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, with a goal from Mohamed Abdel Basset, Al Ain striker Kojo Laba responded, and the match went to a penalty shootout.

The penalty shoot-out lasted 14 full kicks, during which he missed the fifth kick, Sharjah defender Costas Manolas, then missed Moroccan Mahdi Mubarak Al-Ain, who had a chance to settle the game with his kick.

After that, the kicks continued without missing a single one, until the 14th kick, when he missed the Argentinian Matthias Palacios, to dedicate the title to Sharjah, during an exciting evening at the stadium Mohammad bin Zayed.

With this title, the “King” won its 10th President’s Cup title, equaling the record of Al-Ahly Youth Club, holder of the record with ten championships.

Sharjah won the cup title last season, at the expense of Al-Wahda.
