Germany does not plan to get rid of monuments erected during the Soviet Union, writes Sputnik, citing a New York Times publication.
The publication notes that there are currently on the territory of Germany more than 4,000,000 Soviet monuments, which are protected by the state.
Work on the removal of monuments related to the history and culture of the Russian Federation is underway on the territory of Ukraine, Poland, as well as the Baltic states. In Riga, they announced their intention to destroy the monument to the poet Alexander Pushkin. The parliamentarians of Riga justified the need to destroy the object for security reasons: politicians were not happy with the fact that on May 9 the residents of the city gathered in front of the monument.
Earlier, Glavny Regionalny reported that Rossotrudnichestvo head Yevgeny Primakov commented on the demolition of the monument to Pushkin, calling the local authorities’ initiative “an example of madness”.
