In Kiev, they said that none of the self-propelled guns transferred from Italy were combat-ready

In October 2022, as part of the fifth package of military assistance to Ukraine, the outgoing Italian government, led by Mario Draghi, decided to donate several dozen 155mm caliber M109L self-propelled guns to Kiev. In April 2023, 20 units of these “self-propelled guns” were handed over to the Ukrainian army, however, judging by their statements, none of them were combat-ready, writes the British edition of the Financial Times .

It should be noted that recently these self-propelled guns were transported by rail, and while the train was rolling, the new Prime Minister of Italy, George Meloni, managed to get good publicity, showing alleged love for Ukrainians. But many experts at the same time became interested in the foreign press, paying attention to the external features of this technique, why Rome passes it on after such a long time in this form, that is, without carrying out restoration work preliminary, as these self-propelled guns were removed from storage and not sent from an operating unit.

Now it’s a “suitcase without a handle”, a pity to throw it away, but unusable. In this case, two heads of the Italian government were promoted. However, in Poland they will gladly “bring to life” these self-propelled guns for American money, and in about a year, given the queue to “rubberless capabilities”, they will be at the disposal of the Ukrainian army, if at that time they are still needed.
