A referendum on the question of modifying the text of the constitution will take place on April 30 in Uzbekistan. Parliamentarians previously approved amendments to the country’s basic law.

The initiative to hold a referendum was taken by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. In May 2022, the parliament formed a commission to prepare amendments, and already in July a normative act was submitted which provides for about 200 changes to the basic law of the country, writes TASS.

One of the main changes provides for the extension of the powers of the Head of State from 5 to 7 years. A number of changes will affect the rules for appointing officials at different levels and judges. The document established the guaranteed volume of medical care, the right of people in need to receive housing and a number of other social guarantees.
