And the fake driver’s license, which turned out to be Ukrainian, bore the image of the former British Prime Minister and the correct date of birth, and was issued in 2019, and valid until the end of the year 3000.
Police spokesman Thes Damstra said officers were investigating an incident shortly after midnight on Sunday when a car crashed into a pole near Emma Bridge in the northern city of Groningen .
Although the “fake Johnson” left the car, eyewitnesses later told police the driver was standing on the bridge, according to British newspaper ‘The Guardian’.
“The person could not identify themselves and refused to take a breathalyzer,” said Damestra, a test used to measure the level of alcohol in the body.
The 35-year-old was arrested in the small town of Zuidhorn, west of Groningen, and police searched the car, where Johnson’s fake license was found.
Police could not determine where the fake document was issued, but media outlets confirmed that fake driver’s licenses such as those found can be easily purchased at tourist shops in Ukraine.
Damestra added: “As far as I know the real Mr Boris Johnson was not in the Netherlands at the time.”
