After the “big dispute”… a Jordanian university fires 42 students

The university held several meetings which lasted on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and resulted in the dismissal decision based on Article 12 of the student disciplinary system.

The move comes “in the interests of the university administration for student safety and the reputation of university education in Jordan, and as a deterrent to anyone who begs to harm the country’s capabilities,” according to the statement. university.

Statements by the President of the University, Fawaz Al Zaboun:

• “The dismissal decisions that involved 42 students who participated in a dispute last Thursday are final, and no mediation will be accepted.”

• “A meeting was held on Monday afternoon at the Crisis Management Center to discuss the repercussions of the feud crisis, and notables, MPs and ministers were instructed not to accept nepotism and to proceed with disciplinary action.”

• “The university continues and continues to maintain a safe and nurturing university environment to promote positive values ​​within the university campus, and therefore the community, away from intolerance and violence.”

On the other hand, the Dean of Student Affairs, Sadiq Al-Shdaifat, affirmed that the university demonstrates fairness and transparency in the application and execution of disciplinary measures in accordance with regulations and instructions, and in accordance to the consolidation of the concept of the rule. of the law.

And Al-Shdaifat said that “the student has the right to appeal to the university presidency within 15 days from the date of the decision”.

Videos of the feud have been widely circulated by Jordanians, which has shed light on the record of university violence in the Kingdom.

The feud took place between a number of young men from the Bani Hassan and Bani Sakhr tribes, two of the largest tribes in Jordan, and then escalated into inviting their relatives to the university to complete the feud.

The two clans issued a statement denouncing the feud and the “repercussions that have nothing to do with the behavior of the clan”.

The statement pointed out that “what happened was individual behavior representing those who participated in the feud” and that “both tribes abide by the decisions made by the university administration in accordance with the laws in force in their countries” .

The governor of Zarqa, Hassan Salem al-Jabour, had ordered the release of those arrested following the altercation on Sunday evening.
