The General Secretariat of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO) presented a report clarifying the humanitarian situation in Sudan. It also listened to situations about the human suffering of the Sudanese people presented by the Sudanese Red Crescent; From that, the organization’s general secretariat drew a road map for securing and delivering humanitarian aid to those affected by the armed conflict in Sudan. This is by opening safe humanitarian corridors; stop using hospitals and other civilian facilities operating on Sudanese soil as military zones; respect for international humanitarian law; and not targeting the Sudanese Red Crescent Society and humanitarian organizations in respect of the principles of international humanitarian law in accordance with the Geneva Conventions; calling on international and regional organizations to intensify their humanitarian work in Sudan; And preparing the organization’s general secretariat for a humanitarian appeal and coordinating with its members and donor partners to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people.
This came during a humanitarian partnership meeting held by the General Secretariat of the Arab Organization on Sunday, April 30, 2023 AD, in the presence of the Special Envoy of the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Ambassador Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, accompanied by a high-level delegation that included Ambassador Omar Muhammad Ahmed Siddiq; Ambassador Abdul-Baqi Hamdan Kabir; Ambassador Hassan Abdel Salam; Ambassador Elham Ibrahim Mohamed Ahmed; Diplomat Counselor at the Sudanese Embassy, Zuhur Hussein Sayed; It was also attended by a number of humanitarian organizations present in Riyadh, and a number of humanitarian bodies and organizations participated in the meeting.
At the beginning, the meeting welcomed the Special Envoy of the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and appreciated his attendance at the meeting. who talked about the humanitarian situation in Sudan, including a shortage of food and medicine; closing hospitals and health centers; damage to the centers of the water, electricity and fuel sectors; insecurity; This made humanitarian agencies and organizations unable to provide services to those affected by the armed conflict. He called on it to assume its responsibilities by continuing its humanitarian efforts.
The meeting stressed the need to provide urgent relief to the Sudanese people. And to invite international organizations and donors from governments and civil society institutions to provide urgent aid to the Sudanese people and to give priority to medical aid.
The meeting appreciated the Sudanese government’s announcement to allocate Port Sudan Airport and prepare it to receive humanitarian aid and relief teams. Other airports will soon follow.
The meeting demanded that the application of international humanitarian law be observed and that civilian objects not be targeted or used as military zones. And other services sectors such as water, electricity and others.
The meeting was informed by the Secretary General of the Sudanese Red Crescent of the targeting of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society and its warehouses. They denounced the attacks it was subjected to, as it is a humanitarian organization whose emblem is protected in accordance with international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions; Likewise, the attacks suffered by other humanitarian organizations operating in the land of Sudan, including the United Nations organizations.
