Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Named four main ways to identify phone scammers

Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics of the Plekhanov University of Russian Economics, Alexander Timofeev, named the main ways to identify scammers by phone. In an interview with Prime, he named four instances when you absolutely shouldn’t pick up the phone.

The risk of falling on a scammer is great when he calls from a too short number composed of three or four digits. This is a hidden number or a number with a foreign prefix.

If the call suddenly turned out to be too short or dropped, this could also be a sign of a call from a scammer. In this case, you need to pay attention to certain combinations of numbers at the beginning of the number. So, with the code +7800, toll-free numbers begin, which various organizations like to use. And it can be all kinds of spammers or advertisers.

An unknown number is easier to dial on the Internet before picking up the phone. Now there are anti-fraud services – caller IDs and programs to check them for fraud. This will help separate important structures from calls offering to take out a loan or apply for a credit card.

Fraudsters using IP telephony can generate any number, including calls from the bank, relatives, colleagues. And even when calling from a relative, you should be on your guard if he arrives after hours.

In such cases, experts recommend starting a conversation with the words “I’m listening”, “Hello” and not engaging in unnecessary conversations, especially if the caller is asking for money or details of Bank card. It is better to call the potential interlocutor or the bank yourself and find out everything.
