Barcelona face a new legal threat from the European Football Association (UEFA), including a possible ban on participation in continental tournaments due to alleged payments to the club of millions of dollars, to a company linked to a Spanish head of refereeing.
Court documents show that Barcelona paid 7.3 million euros ($7.7 million) between 2001 and 2018 to Jose Maria Enriquez Negrera, the former vice-president of the Spanish Football Federation’s arbitration committee .
It should be noted that any evidence of match-fixing over the past 16 years could prompt UEFA to ban Barcelona from their competitions for a year and open disciplinary proceedings.
Orientation to Asia
According to local channel TV3, the Barcelona administration is currently carrying out a study on the possibility for the team to participate in tournaments outside the European continent.
One of the possibilities mentioned is the participation of the team as a “guest” in the Asian championships, which will be able to enter the club with sums to compensate it for European participation.
The administration is also considering the team’s participation in a European national league other than the Spanish one, in case sanctions are applied to the team by the Spanish League.
