Citizens of Canada with call signs Rambo and Roland died near Bakhmut

Two Canadians who fought alongside the Ukrainian Armed Forces died near Bakhmut. On this subject informed CBC, citing other fighters.

Kyle Ronald Porter was 27 years old, he came to Ukraine from Calgary, Cole Zelenko was 21 years old, he arrived from the city of St. Catharines in the province of Ontario, his grandparents emigrated to Canada from Ukraine.

Canadians fought as part of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion. Porter had the call sign Roland (the hero of French epic tales) and Zelenko – Rambo. At first, Zelenko wore a ribbon on his head to look more like the movie character Sylvester Stallone. In Bakhmut they operated as part of the 92nd Mechanized Brigade. Canadians died on April 26.

A few days before his death, Porter wrote to CBC News reporters: “I wonder how can I survive the next few days…Today I was in such a meat grinder that I no longer expect to no good. he wrote three days before his death.

The commander of Zelenko and Porter told the details of the death: on April 26, at around 6:00 p.m., the Canadians, as part of a large group of soldiers, were ordered to hold the approaches to the supply road between Bakhmut and Chasovy Yar. Their group was subjected to intense artillery fire. Porter, Zelenko and at least three other Ukrainian soldiers hid in the dugout, but he was directly hit.

Both have previously served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Porter first worked in the group of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kharkiv and only then joined the legion, where his friend Zelenko had already served since April 3, 2022.

A total of five Canadian citizens were killed during the conflict in Ukraine.
