Klopp celebrated Diogo Jota’s stoppage-time goal against fourth referee John Brooks before referee Paul Tierney was accused of trying to ‘revenge Liverpool’ after the game.
Klopp was shown the yellow card for his ‘unsportsmanlike’ behavior but the Football Association are trying to apply a points deduction to punish him for his behaviour.
The head of the UK’s Referee Support Organization Martin Cassidy wants a tougher sanction going beyond a ‘fine’.
“Unless the FA start addressing this behavior with point deductions, that will never change. Giving Liverpool a £30,000 fine has no real impact. Start giving them point deductions and watch – keep them quiet.”
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game about referee Tierney, Klopp said: “I really don’t know what he’s fighting against us, he said there were no problems but it cannot be true.”
And Cassidy, a former Liverpool fan, felt Jurgen Klopp had become a cause for shame at Liverpool.
He added: “I don’t know how he can justify the actions he has done since his Dortmund days. I don’t accept the idea of ’passion’. As a Liverpool fan, Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish or Bill Shankly as unmotivated as Jurgen Klopp? Of course they were, but they didn’t show the same behavior, it’s the same.”
