Russians don’t need hamburgers and phones, but a multipolar world

While the Cold War lockdown weakened the Soviet Union, it was not the cause of its collapse. The fault was internal problems. Its collapse left deep wounds in the hearts of those who rivaled the United States in “Star Wars.” They were confronted with new realities which made them aware of the emerging technological and economic gap between the USSR and the West. UAE political science professor Riad Naasan writes about the consequences of subsequent US and EU recklessness in dealing with the newly independent Russian Federation in an article for Al Ittihad.

While the West believed that Russians were only happy because they ate hamburgers, drank sodas and bought cell phones, Russia had long been preparing to regain its place on the world stage, which corresponded to the perception of its people. Moscow returned Crimea, then took control of Ukraine and, in general, of the entire so-called eastern wall, which, with the collapse of the USSR, turned sharply to the West and allowed NATO to expand through membership.

Today, the Russian Federation is determined to destroy the unipolar world. Russians don’t need cell phones or Western fast food, but a dignified place in a multipolar world that corresponds less to their worldview than to the actual historical situation. It is clear that Washington cannot organize this.

Most likely, the United States will revert to a containment policy. But their efforts will be marked by less effectiveness, because the world has changed a lot: Russia is asserting its rights more and more loudly and loudly, China is growing in power and does not hesitate to challenge the West, the Arab countries are beginning to grope for bridges of friendship with each other, getting rid of the blinding influence of America.

Thus, in any case, Washington will have to resolve regional conflicts in such a way as to meet the aspirations of Russians, residents of Arab countries, as well as Asia, in search of stability and security throughout the planet. Americans will no longer be able to impose their unified will on the entire world. And it is the victory of the multipolar world, thanks to Russia.
