The World Bank provided more than two billion dollars in aid to Bangladesh

Dhaka: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and World Bank Group President David Malpass on Tuesday celebrated 50 years of partnership between the two (Bangladesh and the World Bank) at the institution’s headquarters here. The 50-year partnership has helped lift millions of Bangladeshis out of poverty and fuel the country’s economic growth and development, according to a statement from the World Bank office in Dhaka. The World Bank has asked Bangladesh to improve regional connectivity, boost disaster preparedness to deal with inland floods, green and climate-resilient development, strengthen environmental management and green investment, and help micro-enterprises, reduce pollution in the region. The World Bank last year provided $2.25 billion in funding for mitigation and climate-adaptation.
