An outbreak of a deadly infection has reappeared in Russia

Doctor Alexander Myasnikov warned Russian citizens about the resumption of the diphtheria epidemic.

Doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov told the Russia 1 TV channel that diphtheria, an infectious disease with a high mortality rate in unsanitary conditions, has returned to Russia. He noted that public awareness of this serious disease is declining.

The doctor recalled that in the 1930s and 1940s, mass vaccination was used to eradicate a dangerous infectious disease.

In the 1990s, strict disease prevention measures were not followed in Russia and its former Soviet republics. This has led to an increase in the number of cases of the disease, reports Lookrim .

Alexander Myasnikov warned that only about 30% of vaccinated people remain immune to diphtheria by the age of 60.
