This International Labor Day holiday, the China-Laos Railway attracted tourists from many countries, especially tour groups. According to the information received from the border inspection department of both the countries, the travel of tourism team across the border by train has increased considerably. A head of a Thai tourism agency told a reporter that after the opening of the China-Laos railway, his company’s business volume increased by 40 percent. And currently they are preparing to expand their business to Shishuangbanna Group Travel. Including border inspection time, the international passenger train on the China-Laos Railway is said to have taken 10½ hours and stopped at a total of eight stations. Among them, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang in Laos, Xishuangbanna and Khunming in China are popular destinations.
The China–Laos Railway starts from the city of Khunming in China’s Yunnan Province in the north, and reaches Vientiane, the capital of Laos, in the south. It is the first overseas railway project mainly invested, built and operated by the Chinese side, and directly connected to the Chinese railway network. The total length of the China-Laos Railway is 1035 km. Adopting Chinese technical standards and using Chinese equipment, it was completed and opened for traffic in December 2021.
