Less than 10% of Russians found themselves below the poverty line for the first time in the history of sightings. In 2022, the country had 14.3 million poor people, which accounted for 9.8% of the total number of Russians, KP.RU wrote.

Experts have cited a number of social support financial measures as the main reasons for poverty reduction. They were adopted in 2022 in relation to the poor part of the population, Alexander Safonov, a professor at the Financial University of the Government of the Russian Federation, doctor of economics, told the publication.

In particular, pensions were indexed, lump sum payments were made to pensioners and support was given to families with children. Since May 1 of last year, around five million families with children aged 8 to 16 inclusive have received new monthly payments. But in this case, these are families whose average income per person does not exceed the subsistence level in the region.

The fact that since 2018 the minimum wage (minimum wage) cannot be lower than the subsistence minimum for a worker also played a role. This, according to the expert, led to the fact that a full-time person cannot receive below the poverty line.

Earlier it was reported that, according to experts, in 2023 the income of Russians may increase by 3%, but this does not mean a return to the indicators before the COVID-19 pandemic, which will take two to three years.
