More than 100,000 refugees have fled Sudan to neighboring countries

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced that an estimated more than 100,000 refugees have fled Sudan to neighboring countries.

UNHCR spokeswoman Olga Sarado Moore stated that the UNHCR, in conjunction with governments, has set an initial planning number of more than 800,000 refugees who may leave Sudan for neighboring countries, which are the projections used for financial and operational planning, as it is expected that the number of Sudanese refugees will reach about 600,000 refugees. In addition to refugees of other nationalities hosted by Sudan, noting that the UNHCR will launch a joint plan between humanitarian agencies to respond in Sudan.

She added that among the most urgent needs is the provision of food, water, shelter, health care, relief materials and child protection, indicating that the most important cross-border movement so far is the arrival of refugees, most of whom are women and children, to Chad and Egypt, explaining that the United Nations is delivering and distributing aid by the Egyptian Red Crescent. On the arrivals, and the Commission leads the coordination between the UN agencies in cooperation with the Egyptian government, and the government has amended the preliminary estimates of the arrivals to 40 thousand Sudanese and 2300 foreign citizens.

She predicted that the suspension of some programs would exacerbate risks inside Sudan for those who depend on humanitarian aid to survive.
