Operation Kaveri: A batch of 231 Indians from Sudan reached Mumbai.

New Delhi. Another batch of 231 passengers returned home on Wednesday as part of ‘Operation Kaveri’, India’s campaign to bring back its citizens from violence-torn Sudan.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aridam Bagchi tweeted, “Under Operation Kaveri, another aircraft returned home with civilians.” The aircraft carrying 231 passengers landed in Mumbai. India had launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ last week to evacuate its citizens from violence-hit Sudan. It may be known that under ‘Operation Kaveri’, 559 citizens were brought back home on Tuesday. Of these, 231 Indians reached Ahmedabad while another batch of 328 citizens reached New Delhi.

On Monday, 186 Indians reached Kochi under this campaign while 229 Indians reached Bengaluru on Sunday. A day before this, 365 Indian citizens came to Delhi. At the same time, 754 citizens returned to India in two batches on Friday under this evacuation operation. India has set up a transit facility in Jeddah under ‘Operation Kaveri’. Indian nationals are being brought to this city in Saudi Arabia after being deported from Sudan.

India has set up a control room in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah to facilitate the evacuation of Indian nationals from Sudan.Operation is underway to evacuate around 3,000 Indians in Sudan.Indian Naval Ship INS Sumedha, INS Teg and INS Tarkash. Apart from this, the aircraft of the Indian Air Force is also included in this.

Under this operation, necessary infrastructure has been created in Port Sudan and Jeddah. A fierce struggle for power continues between the army and a paramilitary group in Sudan. In view of the present situation, India has decided to shift its embassy from Khartoum to Port Sudan.

Port Sudan is a city located near the Red Sea in eastern Sudan. The distance from Khartoum to Port Sudan is 850 km.
