Cairo. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has discussed the latest situation in Sudan with US Secretary of State Antony Blicken.
A statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that during the telephone conversation the two leaders discussed efforts to achieve a long-term and permanent ceasefire in Sudan so that humanitarian aid can reach those in need. Emphasized the importance of non-interference by outside parties to ensure stability and protect civilians and not fuel the conflict in Sudan.
Mr. Blicken thanked Egypt for allowing thousands of Sudanese citizens to enter his country and stressed the United States’ readiness to assist it in this endeavour. Fighting broke out on April 15 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, and other parts of the country.
According to Sudan’s Ministry of Health, more than 500 people have been killed and more than 4,000 others injured in these conflicts so far.
