Lipetsk region governor Igor Artamonov announced that the May 9 parades were canceled in Yelets and Lipetsk. In his Telegram channel, he wrote that law enforcement agencies in the region have information about possible provocations on Victory Day at solemn and commemorative events.
“Today, at a meeting of the operational headquarters with the participation of the heads of law enforcement agencies, a difficult decision was made. We are forced to cancel the May 9 Victory parades in Lipetsk and Yelets,” the region’s chief said in a statement.
The governor added that VE Day will be celebrated in the region anyway. These will be small festive events that will take place in parks and squares.
“This will make it possible to disperse people as much as possible and avoid their massive congestion at some point,” explained the head of the region.
Earlier it was reported that the Moscow Victory Parade, which is held annually on May 9 in Red Square, this year could take place without overflights of planes. This option is now being seriously considered, but a final decision has not yet been made.
