Zelenskyy: We did not attack Putin or Moscow, but we are fighting on our lands

This happened during a press conference of the President of Ukraine with the leaders of the countries of Northern Europe in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

In response to a question about why Moscow accused Kiev of trying to assassinate Putin, Zelenskyy said “Putin needs to motivate his people, because he hasn’t won victories.”

Russia on Wednesday accused Ukraine of being involved in a failed assassination attempt on President Vladimir Putin in a drone attack on the Moscow Kremlin, and threatened to retaliate.

Kyiv has denied any connection to the incident reported by the Kremlin, and a senior official of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was a sign that the Kremlin was planning another major attack on Ukraine.

Shortly after the Kremlin’s announcement, Ukraine issued airstrike warnings for Kiev and other cities.

The Kremlin said in a statement: “Two drones targeted the Kremlin. Following timely measures taken by the military and special security services, using radar systems, both drones were disabled.”

“We view these acts as a planned terrorist act and an assassination attempt on the president ahead of VE Day celebrations and the May 9 parade, which is also due to be attended by foreign guests,” he added.

The Kremlin statement said that the fragments of the two drones were scattered on the territory of the Kremlin complex, but there were no injuries or material damage.

join NATO

He referred to his country’s efforts to join NATO, saying that Ukraine “is a de facto member of NATO”, reiterating his emphasis on advancing on the path to NATO membership.

Here are the highlights of Zelenskyy’s speech:

Our goal is to join NATO. Ukraine is a de facto member of NATO. We will strengthen the coalition to protect Ukraine. Northern European countries have supported Ukraine in an effort to achieve lasting peace. We are coordinating with our European allies to ensure a better future for Ukraine.
