Biden threatens both sides of Sudan conflict with sanctions

On Thursday, the White House issued an executive order imposing sanctions on people who destabilize Sudan.

Biden has stressed the need to end the conflict in Sudan, threatening to impose sanctions on anyone who targets civilians in Sudan and obstructs the peaceful transfer of power.

“The ongoing violence in Sudan is a tragedy, a betrayal of the clear demands of the Sudanese people for civilian government and a transition to democracy,” he said in a statement, adding, “It must stop.”

The US President drew attention to the Sudanese people’s embrace of democracy and their rejection of the struggle for power.

Regarding the provision of humanitarian assistance, Biden said the United States stands ready to respond to humanitarian requests “when circumstances permit.”

For the third week, fighting continues in Khartoum after the failure of the recent truce between the two parties.
