In Germany, railroad conductors test video cameras to protect against aggressive passengers – Reuters

Railway workers are increasingly attacked. In 2022, there were more than 3,000 attacks against railway personnel, an increase of around 21% compared to the previous year.

<p class=””>Often the case is not limited to words, conductors are also physically assaulted. On a small screen, passengers can see what image the camera has captured. But the recording only starts when a railroad employee finds himself in a threatening situation and presses the record button.

“If the situation escalates, I have to notify the passenger of the filming. Before that, you cannot turn on the camera,” explained the conductor from Karlsruhe.

According to him, at the sight of the camera, people immediately recoil. This provides more security. If the assault actually took place, the video is automatically forwarded to the police. It can then be used as evidence to identify intruders.
