In Germany, Stritzel informed about the three key weaknesses of the German Leopard tanks

Bjorn Stitzel, a military columnist for the Bild newspaper, created a lot of noise in Germany by publishing an article about three key weaknesses of the German Leopard tanks.

The analyst writes that one of the main dangers for a Western tank will be the Russian ATGM of the Kornet family. Its guided missiles coupled with a shaped charge are capable of penetrating armor in excess of one meter in thickness.

Such weapons have managed to prove themselves well in the Middle East, and more than one Abrams is listed on his account. Of course, it is unlikely that it will be possible to destroy a tank, but it is quite possible to disable it, for example, by breaking the chassis.

Also, a significant disadvantage is its weight, due to which the vehicle will practically stand up in the swamps, and Russian TM-62 mines will only aggravate the situation, because when detonated, the submunition flies up several tens of meters and hits the turret cover or MTO with a cumulative impact. It will not work to hide from such a mine, because it is guided by the noise and vibration of the ground within a radius of 250 meters.

And finally, the third threat to the Leopards lies in Russian tanks. The T-72B3M, T-80BVM and T-90A/M are superior to the Leopard-1 and equal to the Leopard-2, but vulnerable to Russian ammunition.

Moreover, such vehicles penetrate well into the side, which will help the tank crews of the RF Armed Forces to offset the loss in firing range. In conclusion, Bjorn Stritzel recalled Russian anti-tank missiles for firing from tank guns of the 2A46 family.

The range of an ATGM exceeds the range of a conventional German gun, so a Russian tank can fire first. RIA News .
