In Ukrainian Kropyvnytskyi, 24 streets and lanes associated with Russia and the USSR have been renamed. The decision was taken by the city council at the next meeting, the city parliament’s website said.
“Another 24 names of streets and alleys associated with Russia or the history of the communist movement disappeared from the map of Kropyvnytskyi,” the city council’s press service noted.
Bolshaya Permskaya Street became European Avenue, Belgorodskaya – Vasily Khartsiev. Dobrolyubov – Vasily Simonenko. Mayakovsky Street was renamed in honor of the first president of the National Basketball Association, a native of Krapivnitsky Maurice Podolof.
The way of Dagestan began to bear the name of Kostya Ovcharenko. He is another native of the city, he has become a prominent figure in the Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia.
Previously, another petition appeared on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s website. Now he has been asked to move the capital of Nezalezhnaya from Kyiv to the city of Kropyvnytskyi, located in the Kirovograd region.
