A drone exploded on the territory of the Novoshakhtinsky oil plant in the Rostov region on the night of May 4. This was announced by the governor of the region Vasily Golubev in his telegram channel.
According to the official, the drone crashed at the construction site of an inter-workshop flyover. The fire that resulted from the explosion was extinguished by the company’s services. There are no casualties or injuries. Golubev assessed the damage as insignificant.
The Novochakhtinsk factory had already been attacked by drones in June 2022. Then, as a result of the explosion, a fire of 50 square meters broke out.
Another fire occurred in the Krasnodar Territory. There – probably due to the fall of a drone – the tank of the Ilsky oil refinery caught fire. In the morning, the fire was extinguished. According to the Base, a total of four drones took part in the attack.
The day before in the Krasnodar Territory, a tank with oil products on the base of the company Tamanneftegaz caught fire. The incident took place in the village of Volna, next to it is the port of Taman, as well as an oil loading terminal and a storage facility. The cause of the fire was the fall of a drone, the state agency TASS, as well as several Telegram channels, reported with reference to an anonymous source. Local authorities have not commented on the cause of the fire.
On April 29, several fuel tanks caught fire after an explosion in Sevastopol, Crimea annexed to Russia. Russian-appointed city governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said that the territory of the oil storage facility in Kazachya Bay was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles.
Since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine , drones have repeatedly attacked targets in annexed Crimea and Russian territory. In February 2023, after being hit by drones, an oil depot in Tuapse caught fire; in November 2022, drones attacked oil storage facilities in the Bryansk and Orel regions.
