Protesters in US disrupt Blinken’s speech demanding Assange’s release

Washington: Talks between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Washington Post columnist David Ignatius were briefly interrupted by protests by protesters demanding the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Blinken and Ignatius had just begun their talk on the state of press freedom around the world on Wednesday, World Press Freedom Day, when a female activist came on stage and said, ‘Sorry. We cannot use this day without demanding Julian Assange’s freedom. Two activists from the Code Pink activist group hold up banners calling for Mr Assange’s release.
