Residents of the Upper Volga region are invited to participate in the vote for the contest of the Russian Tree of the Year 2023, which runs from May 1 to August 1 on the website of the All-Russian program “Trees – monuments of fauna” www .rosdrevo.ru. Among the 69 nominees is the oak from the Domotkanovo estate of the Tver region (No. 45 on the voting list).

A vast pedunculate oak adjoins the 1890 outbuilding. Museum employees took action and in November last year sent a request for the object to be included in the national register of ancient trees in Russia. According to them, the height of the oak is 11 meters, the diameter of the trunk is 1.3 meters. The approximate age of the tree is 200 years.

At the end of last year, the Domotkanovo oak was entered into the state register. This year, specialists from the Healthy Forest Wood Expertise Center will visit the Kalininsky district to determine the exact age of the elder.

Currently, 13 trees grow in the Tver region, included in the State Register of Ancient Trees.

The competition for the Russian Tree of the Year has been held since 2017. Natural rarities that grow in the regions and constitute the natural, cultural and historical heritage of the territories take part in it.

The list of trees participating in the competition was approved by the Certification Commission of the All-Russian Program in accordance with the applications received from the subjects. Among them are unique historical natural rarities, listed in the State Register of Ancient Trees of Russia, bearing the status of “Monument of Fauna”.

The region where the winning tree grows will receive a diploma, as well as a certificate of inspection of trees and recreational activities by the specialists of the Healthy Forest Center.
