Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

US: Protesters in America obstruct Blinken’s speech demanding Assange’s release

Washington. Talks between US Secretary of State Antony Blicken and Washington Post columnist David Ignatius were briefly interrupted by protests by protesters demanding the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

As Mr. Blicken and Mr. Ignatius began speaking on the state of press freedom around the world on Wednesday, World Press Freedom Day, a female activist came up to the stage and said, “Sorry. We cannot use this day without demanding Julian Assange’s freedom.’ Two activists from the Code Pick activistã group held up banners urging Mr Assange’s release.

Security personnel hurriedly removed the activist from the stage and released the program. It is noteworthy that WikiLeaks was founded by Assange on October 04, 2006, but its fame increased in 2010 when it leaked confidential government information of various countries including the US in a big way. Started disclosing them by publishing on a large scale.

Assange has been held in London’s high-security Belmarsh prison since April 2019 on charges of espionage. If convicted, the WikiLeaks founder could face up to 175 years in prison. Assange will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in December 2022 to challenge his extradition.
